Purpose of the Course This course is designed to recertify/refresh those who have undertaken the air initial acceptance course.
Duration of Course 1 day
Course Content The course is designed to provide refresher training in the theory and practical aspects of transporting dangerous goods by air. It examines the IATA DGR and updates participants on technical, procedural or company policy changes since last training was conducted. Students will be refreshed/updated on the following:
- Dangerous goods terminology
- Australian Dangerous Goods legislation and its relationship with ICAO and IAEA
- Operators manual
- General philosophy on carriage of dangerous goods
- Shippers and operators responsibilities
- Risk to aircraft and occupants associated with the nine classes of dangerous goods
- Classification of dangerous goods
- Identification
- Packing, marking and labelling a dangerous goods consignment
- Completion of documentation that needs to accompany each consignment
- Handling, stowage and segregation, separation distances
- Recognising hidden dangerous goods
- Acceptance procedures
- Emergency procedures
- Dealing with the media
Classroom assignments and exercises will give practical experience to put the knowledge gained to the test and enable the successful achievement of the assessment.
Course Recognition This course is approved by Civil Aviation Safety Authority. A certificate is issued on successful completion of an end-of-course questionnaire and the qualification is valid for two years.
